GKN Aerospace invests in SPM condition monitoring technology

SPM has received an order for the Leonova Diamond handheld instrument for route-based measurement from GKN Aerospace in Trollhättan, Sweden.

With the handheld analyzer Leonova Diamond, GKN will have a powerful and versatile instrument for effective condition monitoring of its machinery. The instrument is equipped with the patented measurement technologies SPM HD and HD ENV, the so-called HD technologies, which provide exceptionally early warning times for reduced mechanical condition and thus plenty of time to plan maintenance efforts.

GKN has already invested in the eight-channel version of the online system Intellinova Parallel EN for monitoring machine spindles and ball screws on a multitasking machine.

Commenting on the investment, Maintenance engineer Mikael Holmberg said: "As we manufacture products with very small tolerances, we need good knowledge of the condition and status of our machines. With the help of an instrument from SPM, we can measure, control, and make targeted efforts where they are most needed."

GKN Aerospace Sweden is part of GKN Aerospace, which manufactures engine components, aircraft structures, cabin windows, cabling, and much more for many of the world's aircraft.

The head office and Center of Excellence for  Engine Systems – the companies within GKN Aerospace that work with parts for aircraft engines – are located in Trollhättan, Sweden, where approximately 2,000 people work. GKN Aerospace's technical solutions are on board 100,000 flights every day.
