SPM bags large order from Arctic Paper Grycksbo

The order from the Swedish paper mill concerns the Intellinova Parallel EN online system, which will monitor two hundred and sixty measuring points in the drying section and coating in paper machine PM9.

The Intellinova Parallel EN measuring system is SPM's most sophisticated. Thanks to its ultra-low signal-to-noise ratio and the patented SPM HD and HD ENV measurement technologies, the system can detect developing mechanical faults at an exceptionally early stage, thus allowing ample time to plan maintenance work to avoid breakdowns and unplanned downtime.

Measurement is carried out using the DuoTech accelerometer, which combines shock pulse measurement with SPM HD and vibration measurement with HD ENV.

Measurement data is stored locally in Arctic Paper Grycksbo's existing Condmaster Ruby database. In-house vibration technicians analyze the collected measurement data using crystal-clear spectrums, time signals, and machine images with the current mechanical condition of monitored machine parts clearly indicated in green, yellow, and red. Saved measurement data can be integrated into control systems or IoT platforms via Rest API and OPC UA.

SPM service engineers and Arctic Paper Grycksbo personnel will begin system installation in early 2025.

Reliability group coordinator Tony Klintasp said: "Investing in an online system is not just a technical improvement step – it is a strategic investment in increased operational reliability, lower maintenance costs, and extended service life of our machinery."

Arctic Paper Grycksbo has a long-standing collaboration with SPM and has invested in several measurement systems. The mill has a clear environmental profile and ambitious sustainability goals. It also aims to increase production efficiency and productivity continuously. Investments in condition monitoring are a contributing factor in achieving this and also provide a safer working environment.

The Arctic Paper Group includes Munkedal and Grycksbo paper mills in Sweden, Kostrzyn in Poland, and Swedish pulp mills Rottneros and Vallvik. The mill in Grycksbo, just northwest of Falun in south-central Sweden, produces premium coated graphic paper in two paper machines. Its production capacity is approximately 220,000 tons/year, and approximately 92% is exported. The mill has 337 employees.
